Exploiting marine resources could help Ireland become a major player in the worlds’ functional foods market. The NutraMara programme aims to mine marine resources including seaweeds, aquaculture, microalgae and marine processing by-products for functional food ingredients that may benefit human health by inclusion in the diet.
NutraMara is an Irish government funded initiative, led by the Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown and Declan Troy is the director.
The NutraMara Conference event for 2012 will be held on the 25th and 26th of April 2012 at the Castleknock Hotel and Country Club, Dublin 15. The full agenda is now available.

Dr Dagmar Stengel is a lecturer in Marine Plant Science at NUI Galway since 2003. She studied Biology at the University of Würzburg (Germany), before moving to the Queen's University, Belfast to complete a degree in Environmental Biology. There she also undertook her PhD in algal research before taking up several research positions at NUI Galway.
